Estimator / Preconstruction Manager
The Estimator/Preconstruction Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning and management of estimating activities for construction projects. This includes preparing, interpreting, and presenting cost estimates for labor, materials, and time. They assess project specifications, coordinate with architects, contractors, and suppliers, while ensuring estimates align with project goals and budgets. Their role is essential in providing accurate forecasts to help secure bids and maintain financial control throughout the project.
General Position Responsibilities & Duties
- Review project plans, requirements and specifications.
- Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs and materials pricing.
- Coordinate subcontract solicitations and jobwalks.
- Determine labor and construction equipment costs.
- Prepare construction estimates/cost estimating.
- Meet and maintain bidding and work schedules.
- Coordinate material and equipment procurement.
- Compare competitive trade bids.
- Secure all bid documents (bid forms and quote letters).
- Prepare subcontractor bid list and submit drawings to subcontractors.
- Prepare and provide project turnover package to the operations team.
- Participate in bid compilation on bid day.
- Assist jobsite staff with estimates after bid award.
- Perform post-bid buyouts (if applicable).
- Maintain good relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements
- Engineering, Construction Management or Architectural degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience (desirable).
- Two years project engineering or related experience (desirable).
- Ability to read and understand specifications and drawings.
- Ability to make accurate judgments and calculations.
- Working knowledge of construction costs and principles.
- Estimating experience (quantity takeoffs, purchasing accounting; engineering design knowledge and project management experience desirable).
- Drafting and computer skills (Excell, MSW, MS Project, On-Screen Takeoff or similar application and BlueBeam desirable).
